Universus fans have been clammoring for this one for a long time. Every time a conversation pops up about “What should be the next UVS IP?,” someone always mentions TMNT. Well now the dream has become a reality and we’ve gotten one step closer. The sell sheets and initial trailer have been released on the UVS Games website and they give us a peak into what we can expect.

Starting out with a big change, the TMNT starter will entirely feature cards you can only find here… in one way or another. Five of them will be Starter Deck exclusive. The rest will be Alt arts that you can 80’s versions of here in the Starter Deck. It’s hard to say if this perfectly strikes the balance. Players still have a reason to buy the deck if you want to complete your collection or you prefer the retro look. And UVSG didn’t go back to the old days when players complained they felt like they were required to buy the Starter decks to compete with critical cards found only there, as the whole deck was unique. This is a wallet respecting move and it’s decisions like this that keep players happy.
We’ll see all 4 Turtles in the SKU on the Character card (if I’m reading this correctly), so it’ll be a nice pick up for any TMNT fans that want to give the game a try.
August is going to be a Monster month. Gencon kicks off the month in Indianapolis, where players will get their first chance to get their hands on TMNT. Then, Prereleases begin on August 8th with the set hitting shelves Aug 15th.
We’re still waiting on Preview season which should be kicking off pretty soon, but we have a few bits of info. The set will feature “Ooze” Ultraviolet Alt-Art cards. So, if you have a black light, for whatever reason, break it out and light up your favorite hits. Or maybe there will be a contest for the best TMNT card on display at home. Who knows? But a UV-reactive foil is pretty cool and different. It’s good to see them continue to think outside the box.

The greater set will have 8 Chromes (c’mon KC!), with a gold manhole cover stamp in lieu of the signatures we’ve seen in recent sets.
The QR CODES ARE HERE! Booster Boxes will feature QR codes that players can scan in order to score points on the website. We’ve been waiting for this one for a while now. Here’s to hoping no bugs on launch. 🤞🏾🤞🏾
The power creep has turned up with Attack on Titan: Apocalypse debuting some pretty strong cards last month. It seems the new team is comfortable with game defining abilities and play styles. That should mean Leo and the boys will have some sick cards that won’t have a problem kicking shell. This seems like a really nice jumping on point for a lot of players young and old. IP that bridges the gap, Set that seems to have the features give whales a nice ROI, and fun art and foiling that gives players that dopamine hit when you snap the cardboard down on your mat.
Much more to come. Until then, I’ll see you on the tables!
