Heroes of Exandria is a month away and the Alt-Art Characters just dropped from theGamer. UVS Games is back in the elite circles of art with these Alt-Characters. They look absolutely insane! We sill have 75% of the set to reveal and I’ll be posting all the reveals here. But on to the Alt-Characters…

It look me a beat to write this next part because I have been FREAKING OUT! The above images show the art of the Alts. However, if you’ve been around UVS Games for the better part of the last year, you’ve seen that the art is just the beginning. The foil patters in UVS are a bit more special that what you might see in other games.

Here is the foil pattern for Taryon. UVS uses reticulated varnish to make some pieces of the card glossier than others, so Taryon’s sword can shine brighter than the background and give depth to the image. They’ve also used this process to make jewels, eyes or small details gleam in the light. I’m pretty geeked to get Taryon’s Alt in my hands and pilot his kit. He just looks absolutely incredible!

Another special piece effect you might have noticed is the foil patterns have different art hidden in the foiling. With the twins, Vex and Vax, you can see symbols hidden in their capes waiting for the right bead of light to illuminate. In the past they’ve gone so far as to hide symbols in the Speed/Damage symbols and all around the cards, making each alt almost a game of Where’s Waldo? Can you unlock all the secrets of HoE?

If they couldn’t print Alts of every Character, that’s totally understandable. It looks like they got all the most popular and (more importantly) most powerful Characters accounted for, so we’ll be able to jam the coolest versions of the cards we care about. UVS Games gets an A in my book for the Characters. At first, most of the Characters they released looked very weak, but it seems they were just saving the best for last. I can’t give each Character a grade today, I’ll be analyzing their kits as they come out. I’ll be very interested to see which Assets and Actions accompany these Characters, as many of them rely on the Greens and Blues to function. Until we get those answers, I’ll see you on the tables!
