WORLDS IS BACK ON!

All year, there has been a vocal group of players that have spoken out about the lack of information surrounding Worlds 2024. The rules for invitees seemed to assume that all 64 players would be able to make the event, even with some players getting 2 weeks notice that they had received an invite. An official ranking of players and their Championship Points for the year didn’t exist, so knowing if you were close to earning the invite was also a bit of a crap shoot, as was when those players would be notified.

Then UVS Games shed a bit of light on the event. They said there would be no LCQ, invites that couldn’t be used would trickle down to the next player, and no spectators would be allowed at the venue. Now, I had a lot of thoughts at the time that you can read here. THIS WEEK, we got more news!

  • SPECTATORS WILL BE ALLOWED
  • THERE WILL BE AN LCQ TO FILL VACANT WORLDS SLOTS HELD ON FEB 14TH
  • WORLD’S WILL HOST A TEAMS EVENT & A RETRO EVENT
  • INVITEES WILL HAVE TO ACCEPT THEIR INVITE BY FEB 5TH

I said before that UVS Games did the right thing to not allow people to come to an event that wouldn’t have much entertainment for them. Their response? Give them something to do! I like that they weren’t happy with just throwing together an average event before fast-forwarding to next year, where their main focus surely lies. Give players something to do. Welcome them with open arms. And let everyone know what to expect well in advance.

I think this is a great step. The event isn’t perfect. There could still be more spectacle added to the itinerary, but this will be the last event of it’s kind and going all out to revamp it might be more trouble than it’s worth. Players said they wanted to be there when the World Champion is crowned and now they can be. That’s the big take away. After this, we can dream of what next years Worlds will look like when they add in the resources for Nationals and lead up to it with a solid, transparent, lucid system for entry. Welp, I have many more articles to write, so check back often. Until then, I’ll see you on the tables!
