Today’s announcement was MASSIVE! So I’m breaking it up to give each IP it’s due. We got our first look at the return of the King of Monsters himself, and he looks ready to tear some things apart.

Coming in with 34 Life and a 6-card hand size, Godzilla feels comfortable for a newer player to pilot. The first two effects that give damage and help u pass checks are pretty solid. Kind of like the monster, they’re simple and strong. The interesting but is that last ability. Destroy ALL Foundations?? Ok. That’s a big reset button to hit. It’s not broken, I’m not even convinced it’s good, but if I’m down 10-4 in the Foundation race, it’d be nice to just say… No. Sorry Bui, build em all back up again! 🤣

So, who in the world can fight Godzilla?? Well, the alien tri-headed dragon that was frozen solid in a block of ice until [insert dumb human here] tried to thaw him out.. of course. Ghidorah. If you’re not up on your monster movies, well I guess I just caught you up. Seeing as Ghidorah has 3 heads, it’s fitting you’ll have to kill him 3 times. And as Emperor of Everything, (cinematically) he has the ability to control the other lesser monsters. So, his card let’s him grab anything he’d like from the discard pile and jam it whenever he’d like this turn. Ghidorah is interesting. His effects aren’t quite consistently used enough to make a meta-worthy impact on the game, BUT he can limit these huge attacks we’re seeing from The Dark Tournament to just chopping off 1 head. I’ll probably write more on these two once I have a chance to test them.

Final notes.
- Love the new packaging. A window that shows the card is always a great choice and the new title location pairs with that well
- We won’t be able to grade these until we reveal all of it. Gonna be suuuuper tough to top what we’ve seen from Critical Role.
- Love the art style on the Alts. Since it’s a live-action IP, u have some liberty with where u go with your art direction. Hope we can see foils soon.
- This was Day 1 of the GAMA Expo. Hoping to catch some more info as the week goes on.
