I’ve been going to Regional tournaments for over 15 years. I’ve seen how the top games run their events and what they offer their players. If you’re a competitive player, you know what to expect. The main event on Saturday will last your typical 8-10 rounds. Some side events will pop up half way through. Maybe you can win a mat or a few packs if you win 3 rounds. The event hall has terrible wifi, so your phone feels like it doesn’t even have internet. Good luck finding food without paying the delivery fee. Then Sunday comes and the place is pretty much a ghost town. The only people who show up are there for the Top Cut stream, and every one else has headed back home.

Then, There’s a Legendary Wolf Games Regional License Exam! I was skeptical of Harrah’s Hotel & Casino in Kansas City, I’m not gonna lie, but what a GREAT location. They had plenty of places to eat on the budget. They had plenty of places to SIT outside the event hall. Yea, we all know that struggle! The wifi actually WORKED! The hall where we played was spacious. The chairs didn’t have my thighs feelin like I was bein stabbed after 6 hours of sitting! Then the event…
LWG took their time when they came up with the logistics of this past weekend. In addition to the Twitch stream on the UniversusCCG channel, they hosted 2 streams of their own with PLAYER MICS! Player audio is something I’m a huge fan of. As a poker player, I know that even in TCGs table talk is a part of the game. Sometimes you can extract information from your opponent that you didn’t have. Other times, the audience can get explanations that the announcers can only guess at. All in all, the streams were awesome and gave viewers options of different games to watch. After all, this is one of the widest formats for any of the big card games, and showing off more interesting decks in a huge win for everybody. I had a blast playing on stream myself in the Warm-up event.

Before I go on, I must apologize. I buried the lead. The KC RLE showcased the most enjoyable side event I’ve ever heard of. Yea, 8-player single elim Win-A-Mat MOVE OVER! There’s a new Side Event King! I’m a HUGE fan of The Cavalry Battle Side Event. When you arrive to the event hall, you can buy into the Cavalry Battle for $15. You receive 4 wrist bands and you can wager them on matches over the course of the weekend, in other events or in a random game with your friend. (Kind of like Duelist Kingdom rules) One player will receive the 10,000,325 point headband. Matches with the 10M point headband will be recorded all weekend and whoever has the most wins in 10M headband matches receives A WHOLE CASE OF UNDAUNTED RAID! Yep, that’s right. And at the end of the event you’ll turn in your wrist bands for packs of your choosing. It was a blast hunting for wrist bands and I can’t wait for the next chance I have to play a Cavalry Battle! 10/10
Now everyone in the Universus community knows, you can’t talk about Legendary Wolf without talking about the people that make things go. Of course, the Wolf himself Myles Tyler did an incredible job as the MC, TO, Game Show host, and Robin Hood making sure the people got the wealth. But let’s not forget the team. Mason and company had a FANTASTIC setup for their store and taught me a thing or two about the world of Universus that I didn’t even know about. I was even more impressed with Danielle’s and Sara’s setup for the streams and how they kept everything running. I’m a computer hardware junkie and they had a setup so clean, I felt like I was in Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Hats off to all of you for setting all that up and taking it all down, because I know it was more than a snap.
Shouts out to everyone that made the event so special. I don’t want to go on naming people because I know I’ll fall short, but as anyone who has attended an RLE knows, the best thing about Universus is the community. From Jelly crushing me with his Staff deck, to Sean O’Brian stealing RLE points with his encyclopedic knowledge of the game, the weekend was packed with memories and that’s what makes this game great. So, Thank You LWG. Thank you Jasco. And thank you to all the people that work so hard to allow us to enjoy these little pieces of cardboard. I can’t wait to see you all on the tables!
